Microbiological Filter - Most Frequently Asked Questions
Q –Why does the Microbiological filter system have to have its own separate drinking faucet (drinking tap)?
A – The Micro water filter offers a high level of filtration. However, this method will produce relatively low quantities of water at any one time. At a flow rate of around 3 – 5 litres minute, this is a lower flow than is normally required by a standard drinking water tap (approx 14 litres per minute at full flow), which is why a separate tap is needed. This flow rate is perfectly adequate for drinking water or for water used for cooking.
Q – What is the difference between the Microbiological Filter system and Reverse Osmosis. (Drinking tap)?
A – Reverse Osmosis is a very precise filtration process and it can only produce small quantities of water at any one time. A Reverse Osmosis needs its own storage tank which means it takes up more space than the Microbiological Filter system, . Also, unlike RO, the Microbiological filter system does not use rinse water, so it is more economical and more environmentally friendly than an RO.
Q - How often do I have to change the filter cartridges?
A – The filter cartridges will have to be changed every 3 to 6 months dependent on the amount of water used and its quality.
Q – How will know that its time to change the filter cartridges?
A – It is good practice to change the filters at least every six months, this is to remove any risk of a microbiological build up occurring inside the filter housings. However, if the water flow slows down significantly, or if the water starts to revert to its unfiltered state (bits appear, or poor taste and odour returns), then its time to change the filter cartridges.
